Graag wilde ik een update geven betreft de onderneming van Eric om zijn familie en geboorteland te steunen na de aardbeving in Haïti.

Ten eerste wilde Eric en ik degenen die een donatie in de vorm van geld en/of advies hebben gegeven, heel erg bedanken.
We zijn onder de indruk van de warme, vaak verrassend grote, donaties en reacties.
Ook de reacties waarin twijfel wordt uitgesproken over de missie van Eric hebben we ter harte genomen,
want deze zijn uit zorg geuit en dat waarderen we erg.

Eric is sinds een aantal dagen in Tampa, Florida, vanwaar hij vanuit zijn ouderlijk huis nog enkele voorzorgsmaatregelen treft. Morgen; maandag 22 februari vliegt hij via Miami naar Port au Prince.
Eric kan met de volgende figuurlijke en letterlijke bagage op reis: steun van veel vrienden, waaronder die van jullie en zijn eigen familie en vrienden, een gedoneerde EHBO rugzak van de BHVspecialist Goes, persoonlijke medische maatregelen, zoals malariatabletten en vaccinaties, van donaties betaalde overlevingsmiddelen zoals energy-bars, een bouwhelm, een zaklamp, een goede waterfles en een oplader op zonne-energie voor de mobiele telefoon, van donaties betaalde muskieten netten en touw.
Eric heeft onderhand connecties gelegd en is welkom bij verschillende organen in Haïti, zoals het Rode Kruis en de UN. Ook hier in Europa heeft hij connecties gelegd met organisaties, aan wie hij zijn ervaringen terug kan koppelen.
Hij wordt opgehaald van het vliegveld door zijn vader in een auto en kan onderdak krijgen bij zowel zijn vader als zijn neefjes (in een tent in de tuin).
11 maart is de terugvlucht naar Miami en Tampa.

Eric heeft een blog geopend, waarop hij tijdens zijn verblijf in Haïti wanneer dat mogelijk is zijn ervaringen zal posten, maar in ieder geval na de reis zal vullen met zijn verhaal.

I would like to provide you with an update,, concerning Eric's mission to support his family and land of birth after the earthquake in Haiti.

First Eric and I would want to thank those who have given support financially and mentally.
We are impressed by the many warm and sometimes quite big, donations and reactions.
We have also taken seriously the reactions that spoke with doubt about Eric's mission. This is based on caring about us and we very much appreciate that.

Since a couple of days, Eric is in Tampa, Florida, where he takes some more pre-cautions. Tomorrow the 22nd of February, he will fly via Miami to Port au Prince.
Eric is lucky to travel with both figurative and practical luggage: the support of many friends (you) and of his own family and friends, a donated first-aid rug-sack by BHVspecialist from Goes, personal medical pre-cautions like malaria prevention and vaccinations, by donations payed survival equipment like energy-bars, a construction helmet, a flashlight, a good waterbottle and a phone recharger on solar energy, by donations payed mosquito nets and rope.
In the meanwhile Eric has made connections with several organizations who will welcome him in Haiti, such as the Red Cross and the UN. In Europe as well he made connections with organizations who are interested in his experiences.
He will be picked up at the airport by his father in a car and he will be able to stay at his fathers or cousins' house (in a tent in the garden though).
The 11th of March he will fly back to Miami and Tampa.

Eric has opened a blog, where he plans to update his travel while he is in Haiti if possible, but in any case after his trip to Haiti.
